Who we are

CUC Southern Grampians is helping create greater access to tertiary education for people across the Southern Grampians region. From our study centre in Hamilton, we provide a connected and supportive learning community that helps regional students work towards their educational, professional and personal goals.

Why we’re here

People living in regional and rural communities deserve opportunities to pursue further education without needing to relocate. CUCSG provides local students with the facilities, resources and support they need to study successfully while remaining connected to their families, employment and community.

What we do

CUCSG operates from a dedicated learning and study space at 200 Ballarat Road, Hamilton. Registered students have free access to high-speed internet, modern technology, printing and copying facilities, quiet and collaborative study spaces, and academic and study support.

Students can also connect with other local learners and become part of a broader regional learning community.

Registered and inducted students can access the Centre daily from 5:00 am to 11:59 pm. The Centre is staffed during office hours from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 6:00 pm.

CUCSG provides a welcoming, secure and supportive environment where students can feel connected, encouraged and confident throughout their studies.

Who we’re here for

CUCSG supports people across the Southern Grampians region who are undertaking eligible tertiary education through an Australian university, TAFE or other approved education provider.

We also welcome people undertaking eligible professional development who need a suitable place to study away from home or work.

CUCSG works with local businesses, community organisations and service providers to strengthen educational opportunities, student placements, work-based learning and connections between local students and employers.

How it all began

In early 2019, the possibility of establishing a Country Universities Centre in the Southern Grampians region was discussed with local business and community representatives.

A steering committee was subsequently established to develop the business case required to seek funding for the Centre. Consultation with education, business and community stakeholders demonstrated strong local support for the initiative.

The funding submission was successful, and recruitment for the Centre Manager position was finalised in September 2025. Zoe Brinsden joined CUCSG as Centre Manager in October 2025.

CUCSG secured a dedicated wing at the South West TAFE Hamilton campus, and the space was prepared to provide a welcoming and professionally equipped study environment for regional students.

CUC Southern Grampians opened in January 2026 and now supports students across Hamilton and the wider Southern Grampians region.
